It’s the first day of school in Chicago

Happy Monday and happy first day of July! I’ve been busy working at a local music festival, but I wanted to stop and say good luck to all the 2013 corps members in Chicago who are teaching their very first lessons today.

During an interview last week I reflected back upon my first day in my own classroom. Regardless of your background, whether you’re a licensed teacher or a sociology major, the first day is scary. It should be! You are responsible for the future of however many young minds you have in front of you. But as long as you remember that every child has potential and every child is a gift, then you will be fine. It will get better.

Again, good luck today, Chicago, Detroit, and Milwaukee corps members! Keep your head up, work hard, and remember to take some time this evening to yourself.
